The Village Economy Development Foundation (VEDF) is a Bangladesh-based national non-governmental development organization dedicated to providing timely humanitarian relief, supporting post-disaster recovery, and fostering inclusive and sustainable human development through participatory, community-centered, and need-based interventions. Its programmatic focus connects Relief and Development through emergency assistance, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), housing and shelter, health, education, livelihood development, and community resilience. Established as a legal entity in 1996 and commencing field operations on 05 September 1999 from a modest office at Ambari Bazar under Parbatipur Upazila, Dinajpur District, VEDF operates with a fundamental commitment to poverty reduction and the socioeconomic empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable populations in rural Bangladesh. VEDF's operational area aims to span the Khulna, Barishal, and Rangpur Divisions, giving the organization a grassroots presence across the coastal and deltaic regions of southern Bangladesh and the northern plain land belt. Alongside WASH-centered, multi-sectoral development programming, VEDF maintains a longstanding relief and community-welfare portfolio that includes emergency food and essential-item distribution, seasonal support, housing and shelter assistance, safe-water support, health assistance, education, income generation, mosque and Ozukhana (ablution facility) construction, and orphan support through a network of international and national donor partners since 2004. VEDF strategically targets underserved groups - including landless people, marginal farmers, women, children, persons with disabilities, indigenous communities, and disaster-affected households - with particular attention to families affected by floods, excessive rainfall, river erosion, water salinity, arsenic contamination, displacement, and other climate-related shocks. VEDF distinguishes its methodology by linking immediate relief with recovery and long-term development, emphasizing community ownership, local resource mobilization, and the active participation of local stakeholders - including community leaders, teachers, and Imams - in program decision- making. Moving forward, VEDF is pursuing an institutional trajectory aimed at expanding integrated Relief, Recovery and Development programming, deepening WASH service delivery across its three operational divisions, and strengthening climate-resilient community development.

Our mission is to improve the socio-economic conditions and resilience of less-income, downtrodden, underprivileged, disaster-affected, disabled, tribal, and minority communities through timely humanitarian relief, post-disaster rehabilitation, Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), health, education, livelihood and income generation, environment and climate action, culture, and Human Rights. VEDF mobilizes available resources and implements need-based programs that connect emergency assistance with sustainable development, while also supporting religious education and infrastructure development, particularly mosques and Ozukhana, for the Muslim community and other minority groups. The key approach across all programs is the participation of people and stakeholders at every level.
